Of Autumns and Chestnuts

Chestnuts Abi Guzar is an interesting place. It’s a small by-lane in one of the most crowded regions of Lal Chowk, one of the many Lal Chowk has retained over the years. It has everything. From  kandur s (local bakers) to a missionary school, all sort of doors open into Abi Guzar. There are cloth merchants, embroidery shops, houses, publishers, doctors, lawyers and retailers selling shoes, bags, clothes, and electronics. A bit of everything. And of course, there is the usual tours and travel agency. At the mouth of the lane there used to be a famous audio cassette seller before going out of business a few years ago.  Now, in its place is a garment shop. There also used to be a fruit vendor over there – a plump man with turquoise eyes – he too has since moved away.
